Developing Fractions Sense C
Learn a sense-making approach to fraction multiplication.
The program consists of 46 lessons and three enrichment lessons. Each lesson consists of an instructional section focusing on one concept from the Common Core Math Standards for fractions, followed by exercises. Concepts are introduced concretely before presenting arithmetic solutions. Various strategies are presented for adding fractions with different denominators. A major focus of the program is fraction multiplication. Students differentiate between the multiplier and the multiplicand and develop an intuitive notion of fraction multiplication. Students apply their learning to the solution of verbal problems.

This workbook includes three enrichment lessons on division of a mixed fraction by a unit fraction. Besides its intended use with a 5th-grade student, it may be used with a 4th-grade gifted student or an older student who has difficulty with adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and with fraction multiplication.
