Many students have difficulty with fractions because they have never learned the basics, such as what a unit fraction is and what the two numbers that make up the fraction notation mean. The Development Fractions Sense A, B, and C workbooks, along with the accompanying set of fractions blocks, are intended to provide students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 with a concrete and visual introduction to the fraction standards for those grades. Many of the lessons are 5 – 15-minute mini lessons, focusing on one concept or strategy. The conceptual understanding attained serves as a foundation for the arithmetic procedures in the subsequent lessons.
